MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING

Well-being is the experience of feeling happy and healthy. It includes having good mental health, life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose and ability to manage stress. Poor mental health can lead to mental health disorders such as stress, anxiety and depression, which have become Europe´s largest health challenges causing a huge economic and social burden.

The baseline value of mental health is positively associated with physical activity. Lack of exercise, poor diet and high levels of stress can lead to high blood pressure, weight gain and an overall unhealthy lifestyle. In contrast, participation in regular physical activity can increase team bonding and self-esteem and reduce stress and anxiety. Exercise causes our body to release endorphins, chemicals in the brain the help relieve pain and stress.

FOMO has been linked to intensive use of social media which play an important role in identity building. People who feel socially isolated are more likely to develop FOMO when using social media. Physical activity and healthy eating habits can help play an important role in preventing feelings of loneliness and depression encouraging people to be mindful and to engage in group activities.
